The other best clue you can use is the weight of the fish, smallmouth weighs about 7 and

Good Location To Drift Fish For Crappie
The Hardest part about catching crappie while drift fishing is locating the schools. You will need a topographical map of the area, and should have a good depth, fish finder. You can pick the topographical map up at the local bait store. (It’s advisable to go there to get the latest fishing report anyway.) Crappie school in open water and if you can find the schools you can catch a good batch of crappie. Also it has been my experience , the crappie you catch in open water while drift fishing seem to be bigger. The first step you should before you get out on the water is locate the deepest part of body of water you are fishing on from your topographical map, this will be your starting point. You will be
fishing the break area’s on the bottom surface. To Locate a break area look for changes in depth on your depth finder. Any breaks deep to shallow, or shallow to deep are good spots to drift. Try to avoid any flat dead pan bottom surface areas. You will just waist your time in these areas.

How to Set Your Drift for Crappie Fishing
Locate the winds direction and set you boat in position to drift along the break. (change in bottom depth) Make sure your boat drifts along the deeper side of the break. You will use your trolling motor to keep your drift in position along the deep side of the break. If you don’t have a trolling motor your have to use you boat motor to get back in position. (this can spook the fish, thats why a trolling motor is recommended. The Depth finder will be your guide to stay along the deep side of the break, and to locate the fish. Set up a weighted crappie rig to just touch bottom with sinker position your baits about 18 to 24 inches off the bottom. As you drift, watch the rod tip, it will bounce up and down slightly as the weight drags along the bottom. If the tip of the rod remains still the sinker is not in contact with the bottom. When you catch the first fish drop one of your marker buoys to mark the spot. Continue to drift until another fish is caught or about 75 yards, then drop another buoy. This marks your drift location for a return drift or anchor position. Drift about 50 more yards past the second buoy then start up your boat motor and go around the buoys approximately 75yards away. Know move your boat back in position for another drift. Normally the school will be concentrated in one area. Keep working the spot until you get no more bites. If your lucky you can catch your limit and a short time.

You can go to any lake, river and use this method to catch crappie while drift fishing so have fun! And good luck

How to Locate Fish in the Surf

One of the toughest problems confronting the novice in surf fishing is the one of locating the fish that venture inshore to feed. As the beginner glances up and down the miles of beach, he is likely to scratch his head and wonder where he should cast his lure or bait. To him, one section of breaking waves and water looks very much like any other, and he finds it difficult to choose the best spot for fishing.

Unfortunately for the newcomer, however, the ability to choose the best fishing spots in the surf takes time to acquire. Through years of trial and error the seasoned surf anglers have learned which spots are the most productive and which ones to ignore. But the beginner may spend hours fishing a barren spot. What to do about it?

You can obtain information on the hot surf-fishing spots from friends and fishing-tackle dealers. If you have a surf-fishing buddy make a mutual agreement to keep each other informed when and where you catch fish in the surf. Or drop around to the local fishing-tackle store and talk to either the owner or surf anglers who have been out fishing.

Many surf anglers come into the local store to weigh a big fish or buy a lure or line. The dealer gets a good idea of the spots that are producing fish and is glad to pass this information on to his customers.

The beginning surf fisherman often has a favorite way of locating the best fishing spots. He goes down to the beach and looks for other anglers. If he sees a line of surf anglers he joins them in the belief that they are fishing the best spot. This may or may not be true.

If the anglers are catching fish or have caught fish at that spot recently then it’s a good idea to join them. But if no fish are being caught you may be wasting your time fishing there. You can often do better by finding a less crowded spot. In fact, even if a few fish are being caught at the time you can still increase your chances by trying a different location where there is less competition.

Surf fish such as striped bass, bluefish, channel bass, weak-fish and others often move fast. They may be present and active in a certain area and then, in a matter of minutes, disappear. So when these species are moving in large schools and actively feeding on smaller bait fish, the best way to locate them is to look for birds, especially gulls and terns, diving and wheeling over the water. This usually indicates that larger game fish down below are driving the bait fish to the surface.

When the birds are within casting distance, it’s always a good idea to cast a metal squid or surface plug into the commotion. If there are big fish feeding, the chances are good that you will get a strike. But even if the birds are outside of casting range or merely sitting on the water, it pays to keep an eye on them.

If the bait fish move in to shore, the birds and game fish will follow and you’ll often be able to reach them. On many occasions, I’ve spent many hours during the day watching gulls and terns wheeling and diving too far offshore to reach with a cast. However, toward dusk, the bait fish often headed inshore and then there would be fast action as the bigger fish followed them right up to the beach.

Sometimes you don’t see any birds working, but you will either see small bait fish skipping or leaping out of the water or you will see a big fish slap the water with its tail or swirl as it chases a smaller fish. In either case it’s an indication that fish are present and feeding. Then it’s up to you to find the lure that they want.

It can be fun fishing in the surf, and following these guidelines, it can be rewarding too!

For a Healthy Brain, Eat Fish:

It has been established that pregnant women that eat fish , gives birth to children that has better cognitive and fine-motor skills at the age of 3 than those whose mothers did not eat fish while pregnant. Also, women that eats about 2 servings of fish per week while pregnant have their children at age 3 performing better than those who don’t eat fish., if you decide to asses their receptive vocabulary and their visual-spatial , visual motor and fine motor skills. Worthy of mention here is the fact that the most important developmental stage of the brain is from the womb, and that is what makes this discovery to be very important. By the time that the pregnant woman s second trimesters i.e. the period when all the critical process of establishing the correct interconnections are taking place, almost all the neurons have been established.

The brains control the thinking, behavior, and every other cognitive abilities of the system. This therefore suggests that any abnormalities in the brain which may occur early in the developmental stages of the brain can lead to abnormal thinking or behavior later on.

Fish is a rich source of Omega 3 fatty acids which is a very important component and this makes fish to be an important source of food. Omega 3 is a major component of the brain structure. Just as everything in life that has both the positive and the negative sides, eating fish during pregnancy has its own negative effects. Mercury, which has a negative effect in the development the brain, can equally be found in fish. When the unborn baby comes, in contact with a higher than average mercury, the child will score lower on the above tests. Now, how do you know the fish that has a high level of poison? Check the fishes that feed on other fishes, e.g. swordfish and tuna fish. These fishes have longer longevity than others and this their longevity is sustained by feeding on other fishes thereby accumulating more poison in the process i.e. when their level of mercury is increasing as a result of other fishes they ate, they are in the process elevating their level of poison content. Shrimps, sardines, and salmon are species with low mercury levels and therefore are good for consumption by everybody.

Fatty acids plays an important role in the early development of the brain, but their functions does not end there. They can equally be important for maintaining a healthy brain throughout our lives. The search for health promoting effects of fish is still on and the next search is to find out if it can prevent certain psychiatric disorders. Until the result is out, let us keep our fingers crossed.

Information On Fly Fishing

The sport of fly fishing has been around for years and years. In medieval times, anglers fished for food, but the sport has evolved over the years to become a real test of skills. Anyone who has become involved in the sport of fly fishing knows how addictive in can be – but in a very good way!

Fly fishing is markedly different from regular fishing. With plain fishing, you use lures and often live bait to bring fish to your line and hook them. When you are fly fishing, you use a fly that resembles a real insect that the fish feed on naturally. The line is longer and you mimic the movement of the fly or insect on top of the water so that the fish thinks they are biting at a real insect.

Casting is constant in fly fishing. You put the fly out in the water and then draw it back several times so that the fish thinks the fly is landing on the water and then taking off again. With regular fishing, you cast your line and let it rest until the fish bites making the bobber sink into the water.

You can catch some pretty hefty fish using either method, but when you are fly fishing, you have the opportunity to “battle” the fish for survival. This can be extremely satisfying as man battles nature for the top position.

Flies are made out of natural materials in fly fishing while regular fishing utilizes latex and plastic lures made out of man-made materials. Many avid fly fishermen say that the fish are much more attracted to the natural lure rather than the man-made ones. This, they say, makes fly fishing an amazingly satisfying sport.

You can fish just about anywhere – a local pond, a lake, or even a reservoir. When you are fly fishing, you will want to go where the fish are most plentiful. That means traveling (perhaps) to rivers and streams where fish like trout and walleye are known to live. The challenge in fly fishing lies in making the fly look real to the fish below water.

Fly fishing in remote places like Alaska and Canada are great vacation getaways. You can plan a fly fishing trip to many different spots including Mexico, South America, and even Russia. That can be a great adventure – much more so than just fishing your local lake or pond.

Chess has been called “the sport of kings”, but many avid fly fishermen consider fly fishing to be the real sport of kings. It takes skill, finesse, and a lot of patience to get good at fly fishing. Thousands of anglers couldn’t agree more. When you’ve been fly fishing once, you’ll want to go back over and over and over again. May the fish bite well for you!

Dream Fishing Vacation Packages At Vamizi Lodge Maluane Island Quirimba Mozambique

Almost by accident I found one of my dream fishing vacation packages at Vamizi Island Lodge, on Maluane Island in the Quirimba Archipeligo Mozambique. I also found out this is an Eco Lodge adventure vacation, but it is my idea of a romantic affordable honeymoon idea, as many of the other guests were honeymooners.

One or two of them just love the idea of remote island vacations, and in fact this is almost one of the ideal honeymoon destinations for warm weather during the winter.

So how did I come to get there in the first place?

I never take the Guardian newspaper, but because my normal paper was unavailable one Saturday last year I bought the Guardian, and I read about this Eco Lodge adventure vacation, went online, looked at some photos, read the descriptions, and just thought that Vamizi Island resort would be perfect as a remote island vacations.

This was how I came to discover Vamizi, and then some months later, landing in Dar es Salaam, going round the corner to the ‘local’ airport, and finding ourselves in a totally different world, the world of Africa. We flew to Pemba, and then on in a smaller plane to Vamizi. My wife who is terrified of flying, found small local African airlines almost too much, but the views did a little to compensate for over two hours flight time.

All was quickly forgotten the moment we entered the lodge, and we knew that this was somewhere very special.

Everybody turned out to greet us, all immaculately dressed in white jackets.

Our very private lodge, one of I believe 10, but the maximum number of guests is 24. Everything has be designed not to damage the environment, plus the fact that all the materials used are sourced locally which is good for the economy.

If you think that means in any way shape or form that the lodges are cheap, then I can tell you, they are luxurious with a large living room, spectacular bathroom, and cool verandah. The walls in the sower are a huge slab of marble, the beds are 4 poster king size, with muslin mosquito nets.

The living room and the verandah have huge chairs and sofas with masses of brightly coloured cushions.

We had a totally private and direct access to the beach of talcum powder white sand.

Anyway I went deep sea fishing, and caught a big fish, don’t ask me what it was, but it was so exciting, I’m hooked!!

This is why it became my dream fishing package, because whenever I go on vacation again, there just has to be deep sea fishing.

Fishing reels have two classifications: the fixed spool reels and the conventional reels. Fixed spool reels are immobile. Conventional reels, on the other hand, feature spools that revolve and are commonly used in saltwater fishing. These are further divided into three varieties: spinning, spincasting and baitcasting.

Baitcasting Reels
This is a small and conventional type. It can easily fit into an angler’s while mounted on a fishing rod. This is used mainly for a bigger catch. Baitcasting reels are excellent because of their sensitivity to movement by the fishing line’s end but they are inaccessible to ultralight lines sizes as well as with “backlash” tangles. Learning how to use this method is actually a bit difficult. People who use this are mostly professionals or very skilled already.

Spinning Reels
Spinning reels are the most commonly used these days. It has a fixed spoon reel that has housing along its stationary spool parallel to the axis of the rod, spinning around it when the handle is turned.

When using a spinning reel, a casting technique called “spinning” is produced. However, since the spool is set and fixed, having a backlash is one thing you will never encounter. This type is available from ultralight up to medium-heavy sizes. They are also less sensitive as compared to Baitcasting reels. They are also bulky because of their large size, along with the bait and heavy lure attached to it.

Spincasting Reels
This is featured as a combination of stationary and conventional reels. Spincasting reels are angler friendly and are more advisable for beginners. Even children may easily use it because of the simple push-button mechanism. Hence it is also alternatively called pushbutton reels.
It is the least sensitive among the three types. This is as far as movement along the end of the line is concerned. As a negative feedback, you cannot fully control the fish and the luring of the fish, resulting to poor Spincasting.
