Canadian Fly In Fishing And Hunting Guide

Vacations come in all shapes and sizes; some people enjoy going from a museum to an exhibit to a gallery; others like to soak up the heat on a beach in the Caribbeans; while others prefer to avoid the scores of people entirely and go after some game. For those Canadian Fly in Fishing and Hunting is the best choice. I will share with you what you can expect, what you should bring, what you should avoid, and which companies you should plan your trip with. You can think of this as a Canadian Fly in Fishing and Hunting Guide.

My name is Jeremy Wadford, I’ve been fishing all over North America and over the past few years I have been on a couple of those fly in fishing trips to Canada. I enjoyed it; caught some walleye, lots of pike and a 28lb trout!

I’m telling you, this was a great trip and you should go! Leave your wife, your kids at home, take your buddies and fly in to Canada for a week to have the best fishing and hunting time ever. Seriously, ever! This is unlike any weekend trip out of town. The feel is completely different when you cross the border to hunt and fish in Canada.

What To Expect On Your Canadian Fly-In Fishing Trip

It’s a good idea to do your research first. There are 2 main companies that you can plan your trip with (see “Who To Plan Your Canadian Fly-In Fishing Trip With” below), and the staff at each one is well prepared to make your fishing trip an amazing one; so expect to be well taken care of.

Expect a boat and motor, solar-powered lighting, hot and cold running water, showers, fully equipped kitchens and comfortable furniture. The Clean Cabin Deposit (typically $100) guarantees you well maintained cabins with ample room for up to 8 adults. As a rule satellite telephones for emergency use are provided, but it’s still a good idea to make sure that they do have them at all their cabins, or at least at the cabin you’ll be staying in.

When we planned our first Canadian fly in fishing and hunting trip we found that a lot of the following things were provided to us:

Wide, heavy duty 14″ Alumarine boats with swivel seats
6 – 15HP motors and unlimited gas
Marine safety equipment (emergency kits)
Paddles
Anchors
Landing nets
Minnow buckets
Life vests/life jackets (they are mandatory, and whenever they are not included, they are available for rent)
Kitchens with cooking and eating utensils (pots, pans, plates, knives, forks, etc.)
Large propane refrigerators, stoves and freezers
Solar powered lights
Backup propane lights
High pressure solar water system with hot and cold water
Shower and urinal
Wood burning stove for heating
Firewood
Screened-in porches, 200 square foot decks /w benches
Covered area with propane and Charcoal BBQ
Fish cleaning areas with running water
Satellite phones accessible to each camp
Flight checks of our camp (should we need it, assistance would be quick)
Wooden walkways from dock to cabin

*When you plan your trip, read carefully what is provided, and where, because while the above is pretty much standard, we misread the provided features and learned only after-the-fact that some items are provided in select cabins. While I expected the items I listed below, they were unavailable to the cabin we booked. So for our next Canadian fly in fishing trip we will book the cabin with the following provided:

Canned pork & beans
Canned corn
Canned green beans
Canned fruit cocktail
Ketchup, mustard, relish
Flour & sugar
Salt & pepper
Dish soap & bleach
Mr. Clean, S.O.S. & garbage bags
Paper towels & toilet paper

Any problems with equipment you can expect to be taken care of quickly. The guys running the place really want to leave you with a Canadian fly in fishing experience you will brag to your pals about, so they are quick to fix your motor, provide you with gas and help you out in every possible way. When I went, they marked our map and spend some time with us to help us along, before we headed into the lake.

What To Bring On Your Canadian Fly In Fishing Trip

First remember that whichever company you chose, you are almost guaranteed plane transportation in and out of camp from Red Lake. This means that there will be certain limitations on how much you can bring. The limit is most likely to be 100 lbs per person. The weight restrictions are very strict, so plan your fishing trip well!

The bare minimums include duffel bag or backpack for personal gear including clothing, 1 sleeping bag (or blanket), 1 tackle box and 1 small cooler for the boat. A total of 4 items per person and that should be it for a total weight of 60 pounds per person.

General/Personal

Warm clothing and rain
Mosquito coils
Insect repellent and sunscreen
Sleeping bag or blankets (pillows are often provided)

Generation Gap Surfing in Bali

Dawn Breaks over Bali

Six hours earlier, the noise of waves crashing ashore had woken me from a deep sleep. Mounting excitement propelled me from the bed when I realised from the volume of sound that the waves were substantial. It was still dark, but I knew that I could catch the dawn from my suf-board if I left immediately. A while later I was several hundred metres out to sea, battling my way further out and, between soakings, watching the dawn paint the sky from a celestial palette of pinks, yellows and crimsons. I was totally alone and knew that this was not safe or sensible, but I did not care. I felt that my daring to be there gave me a kind of spiritual ownership of the place and that this feeling more than compensated me for my almost complete lack of other worldly possessions – the most valuable of which I had with me, my board. I usually love my board, but sometimes I blame it when I fall off and swear at it big-time. One of the reasons I love my surf-board is that, after I’ve blamed it for my shortcomings and sworn at it, it never holds it against me or sulks in any way. I can just jump on and ride away, as though nothing had happened.

I am now having lunch with my Dad, who has flown in from Perth, en route to a business meeting in Tokyo, to see me and presumably to try and coax me into his company – or any company at all, provided it’s not the company of surfers. He’s not had much luck at this task. Six months ago, when I was having a blast, neglecting my university studies in favour of chasing Perth surf, he tried pleading that I should pack in surfing as my Mum was worried sick that I might be eaten by a shark. This happens to a fair few surfers down-under. I felt a bit sorry for both my parents when their plan rather back-fired on them: I agreed that it wasn’t safe, quit uni and came surfing here instead. I just hope he hasn’t heard about the surfer who washed up here drowned the other month. I think a blow on the head from his board after a major wipe-out was probably the cause. I’ll probably not make an old corpse myself, but I don’t care. My Dad’s hotel, the Maya Ubud, is quite a contrast to mine. It looks like a palace compared to my lodgings, but then so does everywhere. I look again and realise that I’m not doing the Maya Ubud justice by including it with ‘everywhere’; it really is tastefully and typically Balinese, whereas mine is about as basic as you can imagine – thin mattress, fly-sheet, fan, shared cold shower.

My Dad asks me what I think of the Maya Ubud.

“It’s lovely, Dad, exquisite”.

“Wouldn’t you like to be able to afford to stay here?”

“Not really, Dad. I think that right now, at this very moment, I’m enjoying being here more than you are, because you’re used to staying in these places, whereas for me to come here and eat this fab food is a really special experience”.

I suddenly remembered that Dad gets offended when I put his values down that bluntly. I had been talking to him just as though he were one of my surf buddies. To try to make amends I quickly added “I really appreciate your coming all this way to spoil me, but honestly there’s nothing I need that I don’t already have. I really enjoy my life here. Better than that, I love my life here, because I always live in the present. Everybody knows that living in the present is the key to contentment.”

“Son, if you live in the present you’ll never achieve anything in life. In order to achieve things it’s necessary sometimes to dwell on the past and worry about the future”. I had to disagree. “I’m sorry, Dad, but I totally disagree .There’s no intrinsic meaning in achieving anything anyway, so why should I bother? I might as well live in the present and be as content as possible.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve had this conversation. My parents are so cool about my complete rejection of their value system, I really respect them, not just for their attitude about this issue, but also for all they’ve done for me in the past. Actually, there is one source of intrinsic meaning in my life – she’s called Jenny and she’s from California. In order to go and be with her in the States, I’ve realised that I’m going to need to go back to Oz and get some money together. So I discuss this with my Dad, who’s delighted.

“I wasn’t so different from you when I was your age” he said.

“Not quite so idle, but not far off it” he continued. “In those days there wasn’t a sub-culture of idleness, so people who wanted to laze about had to laze about with low-lifes. The problem these days is that civilized young blokes like you can laze about with other decent young people, so it’s much more enjoyable. “

“Your mother’s more worried about you than I am. I reckon that you’ll get bored rigid with this sooner or later. Besides, you said you were doing this to reject meaninglessness, but your life of pleasing yourself has got to be the most meaningless life imaginable. I stopped idling around when I set up home with your mother. I spent over a decade in jobs that were often rather dull, but it never really bothered me, because I knew exactly why I was doing it, I had all the meaning I could possibly have in my life, in providing for you and your sisters. So I’m not too worried, I reckon what you need is to really fall for some woman, then start imagining what you could do to make her as happy as you possibly can.”

Quality Fish Oil

Over 1 billion people rely on fish as their primary source of protein. Additionally, certain types of fish are rich in the essential omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. These essential fatty acids are woefully lacking in the American diet. Health authorities around the world are recommending higher intake of fish oil for the prevention of heart disease. The question arises – what is quality fish oil?

As a formulator of dietary supplements I have watched the fish oil dietary supplement market unfold over the past twenty years. It became obvious during this time that the DHA component of fish oil was by far the most important oil. If you would like to read an overview of the significant health benefits of DHA, click here.

The reliance of so many people on fish as a food source raises legitimate questions of sustainability. Indeed, there are various countries that seek to operate outside the boundaries of agreed upon sustainability fishing levels – and there are always profiteers doing the wrong thing for a buck. Fish farms raising salmon or tuna use significantly more smaller fish to produce the salmon or tuna, making such fish a poor choice for sustainability.

Thankfully, within the dietary supplement industry, there are a number of high quality producers of fish oil raw materials that not only follow the international fishing rules and standards, but also seek to set quality and sustainability standards for the industry. And among a number of fine quality companies Wellness Resources has selected what I feel is the best supplier.

As a clinician who counts on a dietary supplement product to actually do something beneficial, the first concern is simply getting enough DHA in the product. The DHA content of fish oil ranges from 10% – 20% of the oil, depending on the fish.

At Wellness Resources we go the extra mile and provide a fish oil product that contains 50% DHA. This means there is less of the blood thinning EPA and other unneeded oil components. The ability to concentrate DHA to this level is a major accomplishment. To do this, you must first start out with a fish that has a lot of DHA. All of the DHA in our products comes from sardines and anchovies.

These small fish are in abundance in the oceans. Our specific fish oil raw materials come from ocean waters around Norway and North America. Sardines and anchovies feed on phytoplankton. This means that they are low on the food chain and have far lower starting levels of mercury, lead, PCBs, and other toxins.

The company we use is a vertically integrated operation, meaning the fishing business is linked to the fish oil production business – which means quality control from beginning to end. Additionally, the fishing that is done follows strict European guidelines for allowable amounts fished, which helps to ensure that there are enough mature “reproductive” fish left in the ocean to sustain the numbers of new fish each year – thus preventing over-fishing. The company strictly complies to international sustainability standards.

It takes a very select starting fish oil raw material to end up with a product that is 50% DHA. You just can’t make this product out of any old DHA-containing fish oil. Only the best quality raw material will do.

Our fish oil is produced in a state-of-the-art Norwegian facility that is dedicated only to the production of fish oil products. The proprietary production process is based on many years of skilled experience. The factory complies to the very strict Norwegian Medicines Agency cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practice) for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients and uses production quality standards that exceed the European Pharmacopeia and the Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3 (GOED) Voluntary Monograph. Production systems comply to the U.S. FDA’s seafood Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points regulation 21 CFR 123.

The high tech production equipment and storage tanks form a closed, nitrogen-filled system, with no air (oxygen can cause oil to deteriorate and go rancid). The production process takes 6-8 weeks and is done under vacuum, never under high temperatures that could also damage the oil. During this process the undesirable oils are removed and the important DHA is concentrated to 50%. At the same time, a proprietary molecular distillation process is undertaken to ultra-purify the high quality starting raw material.

This special purification technology is able to reduce metals like mercury down to the limits of current scientific detection, meaning virtually none. For example, the Eurpean Pharmacopeia sets mercury levels in fish oil to be no higher than 0.5 mg/kg. The GOED voluntary monograph sets mercury at 0.1 mg/kg. The ultra-purification technology used in our fish oil product drops mercury levels to .005 mg/kg, which is the current detection limit of modern equipment. Likewise, levels of lead, PCBs, dioxins, furans, DDT and other pollutants are reduced to ultra-trace amounts – providing you the purest fish oil in the world.

The gentle and efficient production process results in negligible levels of oxidation, meaning that the oil is not processed in a way that damages it. The final product has very low peroxide and anisidine levels, ensuring that the fatty acids are in very good shape and have excellent shelf life.

One of the commitments of Wellness Resources is to the health of our customers. In this regard, we do everything we can to select the finest quality raw materials for your health. Every nutrient has a different story and can be purchased in varying levels of quality, including fish oil. As a family business, we are concerned about the health and well being of you and your family members. It is our top priority to deliver to you the best possible quality in the health products you count on. The quality of the DHA you take does make a difference.

Bow Fishing Equipment For A Heart Racing Good Time

Bow fishing is very popular among hunters in the off season for deer and birds. To fishing in this way you need the appropriate equipment to basically spear the fish. Bow fishing generally takes place in the warmer months for the most obvious reasons. Fishermen will usually either find a shallow body of water to hunt or may hunt from a small boat for lakes and rivers. It is also possible to bow hunt in the ocean, which can land some wonderful wall decorations as well as bragging rights. There are several different types of bow fishing equipment and it depends on the type of fish that you are looking to hunt.

During the winter months the hunters use their bow and arrow to hunt deer then turn their focus to the water with their equipment during the summer months. They claim that the bow fishing keeps their aim in practice and provides the same excitement that the land hunts provides. Many even state that the water hunt is more of a challenge due to the reflection and movement of the fish. Those little devils are quicker than what you think. Bow fishing equipment truly puts the hunt back into the sport of fishing.

For many years carps were regarded as the trash of the lake. Today many fishermen are seeing them as an adrenal pumping hunt. These fish are the larger fish of the lakes and rivers so they provide an excellent target. If it is more of a skillful shot that you are looking for then hunt a smaller fish! That should get you practiced up to one great shot before winter rolls around! There is also a great line of bow fishing equipment for the ocean fish such as the stingray, sharks and other marine life. There are many tours that take individuals out on the ocean for an afternoon of fishing.

Bow fishing dates back to ancient times when man would stand in the water and spear their dinner with a long hand carved arrow. Today there is a more advanced line of bow fishing equipment that powers the arrow. It is still a difficult sport and one should not assume that it is a great deal easier today over the past centuries, but the equipment has certainly improved. There are other types of equipment such as special arrows for different types of fish and even spear guns. That way there is something for everyone when participating in the sport of bow fishing.

Best Three Tips to Successful Idaho Steelhead Fishing

Regardless of which task you will be dealing with, having good and sound advice will help you. Using a guide, a “track to run on,” may help greatly to get it done. The three basic tips set forth in the following paragraphs can help you achieve a successful Idaho steelhead fishing. For those who follow these tips you may really be expecting much better outcomes.

While you often have a guide, usually assigned by most Idaho fishing lodges, along when you are fishing for steelhead, it is actually necessary that you yourself have the knowledge to do things right. If you don’t, the outcomes could, in fact, be upsetting. Like any other fisherman, experienced steelheaders have their own methods of landing and catching a lunker.

1. Jigs have to be pink, black, chartreuse, reds and purple. Or, if a jig is not available, just work with a hook with shrimp or sucker meat. You must also have a bobber, which is needed to help keep the jig from getting dangled up in rubble and debris on the bottom level of the stream. Position the bobber to keep the jig approximately six inches to one foot above the stream bottom.

2. Get some steelhead eggs (roe), place them in a red mesh fabric and tie it to the fish hook. Place a sinker about one foot to eighteen inches above the line, so the eggs will float off the bottom. Almost as important as making sure that jigs are of right colors when you’re out for a steelhead fishing is to ensure the eggs and sinker are placed correctly. I am telling you, it’s not something to miss out. It will help you catch the lunker, which is something every person involved in Idaho steelhead fishing desires for.

3. Make use of streamer flies in reds, yellows, pinks, black or orange. Tie some crystal flash in the tail. Woolly buggers or any kind of leach pattern in darker colors should work. Some steelheaders hook a tiny piece of shrimp or night crawler to the hook. As a final point, when fishing you’ll need to be sure to use streamer flies. These flies must be weighted in order to get them near the bottom of the stream, which is also a required component in Idaho steelhead fishing.

Like your fellow steelheaders, your ultimate goal is to catch that big steelhead fish. You certainly can accomplish that goal by paying attention to the lectures of your guide and by being attentive to the strategies in this article.

Are up for some Idaho steelhead fishing? Consider going to Shepp Ranch, an Idaho guest ranch that offers the best variety of fishing opportunities in Idaho.

Turtle Aquariums: A Turtle Tank Set Up Differs From A Fish Tank!

The home of your turtle is referred to as the housing or habitat, one of the vital necessities of your pet. There are two main types, namely indoor, referred to as a turtle aquarium, and outdoor housing, often a garden pond.  Although the indoor enclosure has similarities with the fish aquarium, it is not the same. Novice turtle keepers should keep this information in mind.

One of the most important differences between the two is the water level containment.  Fish are aquatic creatures surviving in water alone, while turtles need both land and water. For this reason, fish tanks are filled completely with water, while turtle tanks are only half filled. Different turtle species require their own precise amounts of water according to their size, and these amounts must be accurately calculated and rigorously maintained. Watch your turtle – it should have a high enough level of water to enjoy swimming, but the turtle should also be able to stand in some shallow areas of water, and have a rock or log to climb out and bask on to dry off.

When purchasing a turtle aquarium, make sure that you consider the size your turtle will grow into as an adult. Turtles normally grow three to even four times their infant length as they mature. Therefore, the most ideal aquarium size for your pets is three to four times the length or size of the biggest turtle. The tank width must be twice as large, and the height should ideally be 1.5 to two times its length. Furthermore, choose a tank which is eight to 12 inches above the highest point the turtle can reach in order to prevent it from climbing out and escaping.

When buying turtle tank accessories,  make sure that the welfare and safety of your turtle is prioritized. Never consider placing any rough stones in the aquarium, for they may potentially injure your pets. Select smooth stones instead. Stones which are found on roadsides must be sterilized before placing them inside the tank. All other store-bought accessories should be cleaned every week to ten days. An easy way to stick to your cleaning schedule is to take out and disinfect the accessories when you change your tank water.

Create an elevated place to allow your turtle to bask, either by piling smooth rocks or aquarium gravel on one side of the turtle tank. Other materials to use to create or enhance this basking area are Styrofoam™ or floating cork, to improvise a bridge or plastic raft. The other side of the tank should be used for swimming holes.

A proper filtration system is likewise a necessity.  When you make sure that the cleanliness and sanitation of the tank are maintained, you insure the health of your pet. An ideal power filter, which you can submerge in the water, is recommended. This submersible filtration system makes use of foam as the means of filtering. Rinse the foam using cool and clean water every week.

The purchasing and setting up of the turtle’s aquarium are the most important tasks for beginner turtle keepers. Make sure that before you acquire a pet turtle, you are ready to give it proper housing the moment you bring it home. Remember, the best habitats for turtles are the ones that meet their daily needs by mimicking their habitat conditions in the wild. Your turtle needs space, soil, plants, food, water, and proper temperature control to ensure a long and healthy life.

Alaska: A Fishing Dream Spot

Fishing in Alaska is a dream come true for many an angler.  The air and environment is clear and beautiful.  The water is sparkling and what lies in that water is what has hundreds of people flocking to the state for the best fishing of their life.  It is not unheard of to land a 35 pound King Salmon here and you will be amazed at the fish that are teaming in the waters.

In fact, you can catch that king salmon at up to weights of 50 pounds!  You’ll also find huge fish including halibut, northern pike, Graylings, shiner perch, sturgeon, herring, and many, many more.  Cod, walleye, flounder, crabs and shrimp are just teaming for you.

As for where to find them, you will need to check out the southeast region of Alaska.  There are many locations to fish here and you can target just the fish species you are after.  This is a warmer winter area of Alaska as well.  But, still summers are cool and excellent for getting halibut on the move.  Salmon migrate here to spawn and you’ll find a wide range of trout here too. Head to the locations between Bristol Bay and Cooper River where you’ll find many fish.  You can also fish the coastal waters for halibut and ocean fish.

Make sure to check out Lower Cook Inlet.  This is a popular location where you will be able to find Dolly Varden, a type of salmon.  You’ll also find trout too in this area.  You can dig for clams or fish for halibut and salmon off the coast.  Another excellent location is in the Western and arctic regions.  You’ll catch your fill of trout, pike, graylings, char and burbot here.

What To Take With You

Of course you will need your rods, freshwater and saltwater depending on where you head.  Make sure to take twice as much tackle than you think you’ll need.  Flies, weights, lures, a net, fishing line of several types, as well as pliers, waders, maps, and a compass are also necessary.  Make sure to stock your first aid kit and include enough water in case you can leave the fish!  For clothing, don’t forget you are in Alaska and you do need warm clothing, a fishing vest, sunglasses, hiking books, bug repellent and sunscreen.  Check on getting the right fishing licenses too.  Don’t forget your camera because these are truly some amazing locations not to mention the size of fish you’ll catch!

For bait, take a wide range of live bait.  This could be prawns, night crawlers, crayfish, and razor fish.  Look for frozen baits too.  In artificial, take with you a wide range including lures, flies, streamers, spoons and spinners.  Go for natural bit from the area if you can.  You’ll find plenty of locations to purchase it in the area and of course you can find your own if you like.  Don’t over bait though.

When heading off to fish in Alaska, it’s often wise to take with you a professional or to book a tour.  These individuals can help you find the hidden locations where your fish are lurking.  And, they can make sure that you see some of the best fish out there.  Take the time to check out a few locations online and insure the organization’s quality.  Then, head to the beautiful Alaskan country to get in some of the best fishing of your life.

Latest Adventure – Try Mudslide Surfing!

Are you tried of the same old vacation activity?

The young family members will love you for some of these helpful resources for travel and adventure. Put excitement back into your life.

There is something for everyone.

Mark Miller reports from Malibu, Calif., that mudslide surfing is the latest adventure craze sport. Miller is a writer for the Weekly World News known for weird sports and travel hot spots.

These mudsliding enthusiasts network to find fast-moving landslides that generally occur during periods of intense rainfall or rapid snowmelt.

“They usually start on steep hillsides as shallow landslides that liquefy and accelerate to speeds that are typically about 10 miles per hour, but can exceed 35 miles per hour. The consistency of mudslides ranges from watery mud to thick, rocky mud that can carry large items such as boulders, trees and cars. Lately, however, they’ve been carrying something new — surfers!” reports Miller

“Mudslide surfing is the greatest sport ever!” gushed mudslide surfing enthusiast Matthew ‘Wild Dog’ Davar, who lives on a hill above Malibu. “On rainy days I used to have to stay inside. Not anymore. Now, I can’t wait till it rains. I just set foot out my front door and I’m good to go!”

They have specially laminated fiberglass boards reinforced with hardened steel sheets built to stand up to the mudslides. These boards must travel over dangerous debris, such as, snapped trees, downed power lines and destroyed homes.

Other obstacles they have to avoid are fire crews and volunteers searching for people buried under huge avalanches of rubble and sun-baked mud.

“But what sport doesn’t have its downside?” asked Davar. “When I’m riding that mudflow, in complete control of my board, whipping past emergency vehicles and panicked people screaming and crying that they’ve lost everything — well, that kind of adventure is worth the little inconveniences.”

When I was a kid we played on the newly constructed freeway bridges before the road were completed. There were four of us who would jump off a twelve foot tall bridge and bury up to the waste in mud. Mother never did find our how we got so muddy.

How do you find your next adventure?

The dining room is open air. Your have to go by boat taxi to get there. The taxi costs $2.00. It is so quiet at night that you can hear the water slapping the wood posts and you can almost hear the cangrejos (crabs) fighting over their food on the beach nearby.

Happy adventures!

How Can the 3 Day Tuna Diet Really Help You Slimming and Lose Weight?

Losing weight and slimming your body is one of your main goals for this year. You have promised yourself that you will finally lose your extra pounds off. You want to try some low calorie diet or the newest crash diet in town. Are you ready? Most importantly, would it really help you in your slimming goal and lose your extra weight off?

Let’s start with the 3 day tuna crash diet. Maybe you have heard of the 3 day tuna diet and how it can make you lose 10 pounds to 15 pounds quickly. You can be that desperate to lose your weight off, but before jumping into the 3 day tuna diet, there are some important things you should really know about.

The three day tuna diet is one of today’s favorite crash diets. Many people assume that there is no health risk with short diets just like the 3 day tuna diet. However, low calorie diets usually have adverse effects on your body’s metabolism. By using this kind of diet you may later gain weight, and probably put back more weight than you actually lost.

This is not a healthy diet since it starves your body. You only get about 978 calories per day. Low calorie diets will put you in starvation mode during the first day. You will know it after beginning the three day tuna diet. You will feel sluggish, feel cold no matter how many blankets you have, and even some people dream of food dancing right in front of them when they wake up. These symptoms are indications that your body is in a starvation mode.

The 3 day tuna diet is nearly close to a very low calorie diet or VLCD for short. The three days duration is just an illusion. You will truthfully be on and off this diet for one month.

The three day tuna diet involves eating foods that are not balanced and will not help you lose weight permanently. This diet only allows you some small amounts of fish and chicken, some peanut butter, a few vegetables and an apple for dinner. If you follow all that, then you can get ice cream too, which is not really a healthy diet.

A large portion of the three day tuna diet are made up of refined carbohydrates which have very little nutritional value or none at all. When you eat very low calorie foods that has some bread and sugars in them, then your food cravings are essentially increased because there is more production of insulin when we eat these carbohydrates.

Low calorie diets like the 3 day tuna diet will only give you food cravings. After the three day diet, you are most likely to end up eating unhealthy foods during the rest of the week, since you are free to eat anything you want. Studies made in the 1970s have shown that on average, the 3 day tuna dieter will eventually gain up to eight pounds a few weeks after finishing the diet. The 3 day tuna diet may help you lose some pounds at the start but in the end you will most likely gain back the weight you lost or may gain back even more.

Some diets can be good ways to lose weight while others focus on eliminating healthy foods and calories. The Acai Berry Weight Loss diet can help you lose weight as well as give healthy antioxidants into your body. But if you are in a hurry to lose weight, check out the best weight loss pills on the market!

Fishing: Recreational Versus Commercial

Fishing by definition is the activity of hunting by hooking, trapping or gathering animals that breathe in water or pass their lives in water. Fishing is an activity that some consider a hobby or a profession, even some consider fishing a sport. Fishing is also a tradition that has lived for decades. More than 4 out of 5 Americans were taken on fishing trips. Most adults today had started fishing before they turned 13. For some it is the love for the sport that lives today. The best way to preserve the sport and keep the golden tradition alive is by taking today’s generation of kids and showing them what fishing is really all about.

Modern day fishing is divided into two categories recreational fishing and commercial fishing. Recreational fishing is considered a sport, fishing is done for pleasure or competition. Like most sports, fishing has certain guidelines and laws that limit in which fish can be caught. Fishing guidelines are made and overseen by the International Game Fishing Association (IGFA).

Typically fishing is done legally through rods, reels, lines and hooks. Fishing guidelines prohibit the use of nets and catching of fish with hooks not in the mouth.

A popular form of recreational fishing is competitions or tournaments. These tournaments allow the fisherman to compete for prizes based on the total weight of a specific species of fish within give time period.

Another type of fishing is referred to as commercial fishing. This type of fishing allows fisherman to have the opportunity to apply something they love to do to a career of choice. Fishermen provide a large quantity of food to many countries around the world. The disadvantage to a fisherman’s job is that they have to travel far into the ocean under all kinds of conditions, for example, weather.

In the fishing industry, fishermen are required to follow certain restrictions, such as an individual fishing quota and international treaties. International treaties try to limit the fishing effort. This could lack of jobs for the local fisherman.

The most popular fish caught in fishing efforts are tuna, cod, salmon, shrimp, krill, lobster, clams, squid and crab. The fishing methods vary according to three things; region, species being fished for and fisherman technology. The fishing industry requirements vary from one man with a small boat to a crew of fisherman processing fish everyday.

Both recreational and commercial fishing has several similarities and differences. One main difference is that recreational fishing is practiced as a hobby in one’s spare weekend, while commercial fishing is a career. Recreational can be considered an American tradition while commercial is a career choice.

How I Escaped From The Monkeys Of Uluwatu, Bali, And Seafood @ Jimbaran Beach

Picking up where I left off from the 5th day’s recollection (where we licked our fingers after a satisfying BBQ pork ribs experience at Nuri’s Warung) the 6th day saw us enjoying every single moment to its fullest, for it’s the unofficially LAST DAY for us in Bali. Unofficial, in the sense that we’re departing back home on the next day, albeit on a very, VERY early flight.

Breakfast at Babyface Cafe on Monkey Forest Road saw us digging in into our platters of fried rice, noodles, omelette, and the fantastic, fluffy and sweet Pineapple Pancakes, served with butter and maple syrup. Nope, the breakfast was nothing authentically Bali, nor even close to street foods, but at least we were not digesting jaffles, pancakes and bananas anymore. Prices slightly higher than the average, about IDR15,000 – IDR32,000 (RM5.50 – RM11.60/USD1.50 – USD3.20) for the mains, and about IDR8000/RM3.00/USD0.80 for the drinks.

Once again, we took the van out for a full day itinerary. Do refer to the older post for the phone number of the driver, the rates, etc. Starting off with a short excursion to the shopping arcades of Kuta beach, particularly the air-conditioned Matahari Departmental Store, which reminded me of our very own The Store that instant. Bought some pre-packed kek lapis (Indonesian layered cakes) from the supermarket, but they were forgettable, really.

Lunch was planned by Komang Triawan aka the driver himself, suggesting this place which was supposed to be ‘where the locals go and eat‘. YEAH RIGHT. The busloads of tourists kind of gave it away the instant we were dropped off. But oh well … whatever it takes to satisfy that hunger pangs.

Ayam Tulang Lunak Malioboro is a rather famous name in Bali, for their pressurized cooked chickens resulted in really, really soft bones, to the point of being edible! No joke, we really chewed, gnawed and swallowed all those embedded calcium, bone marrows and all. Only gripe was the slightly dry texture of the chicken, but thankfully the jar of spicy sambal was present to save the day.

The salted egg yolk chicken did not fare any better, for the creamy salted egg gravy was not as savoury as the ones we’re used to, here in Malaysia. The fish cooked in a nest of crispy coating (not sure what it’s made of, but the cocoon-like structure did remind me of yam puff/wu kok) was dry as well, and needed much sambal to perk our palates.

The meal came to IDR46,000/RM16.70/USD4.60 per person. Definitely far from street food-pricing range, but the restaurant was clean, and equipped with air-conditioners. So, this may be a good bet if you’re not fond of the usual Nasi Goreng at the various ‘Warung‘ …..

AYAM TULANG LUNAK MALIOBORO
Jln Kediri, No 50, I-J Tuban,
Kuta, Bali, Indonesia.
Telephone : 0361-759 192.

After lunch we were carted away with full bellies and all, to the beaches. Nusa Dua beach was a most tranquil stretch of fine white sands, but hauntingly barren and deserted. A few souls lurked at nooks and corners. Definitely one for private tanning sessions, and we highly suspected we might have trampled/jumped/monkeyed around too much and upset the serene balance with our presence.

Oh well, all for the name of GOOD SHOTS, really.

Padang-Padang beach on the other hand, looked more happening, with hordes of tourists (mostly foreigners from Western countries) lying on the sands in their most rejuvenating mode. And some even engaged in surfing activities, thanks to the rather high tide further down the waters. A little reclusive, you’d really have to ask your driver about this one, for getting to the beach requires one to descend flights of stairs even.

Just don’t put your hopes high up for nudists on the beach. Or whatever.

Entrance to Uluwatu Temple is IDR3000/RM1/USD0.30, inclusive of the rental for a piece of sarong, which you must tie around your waist. Much like the other temples in Bali. Word of advice if you’re here, be wary of those damned monkeys lurking everywhere!!!!

This was one place I was torn when deciding on the itinerary before we departed for Bali. For I have to forsake my glasses in order to avoid them being snatched by monkeys at Uluwatu. Yes, they’re RUTHLESS CREATURES I tell you! Ended up wearing contact lenses, and it was one of my wisest decision ever made.

We saw monkeys snatching not only spectacles and sunglasses, but sandals, ransacking someone’s unzipped bag, necklaces, and even pulling on someone’s hair!!!! And there’s no escape really. They come from all directions, hence be cautious of your belongings. Yes, even your precious camera.

Fortunately we escaped unscathed and unharmed from any mishaps. Every evening  from 6-7pm, you’ll be able to watch the traditional ‘Kecak’ dance while relishing in the sight of the gorgeous sun setting on the horizons. Cost IDR50,000/RM18/USD5 per person.

Anyway, comparing Tanah Lot’s sunset to Uluwatu’s, my vote goes to Tanah Lot for a more spectacular view. Probably just me, as some in our group actually preferred Uluwatu’s. Well, to each his own then.

Since Uluwatu and Jimbaran are located within short distance from each other, we had to forsake sunset-watching at Jimbaran, and instead opted for dinner on the beach. Anyway, you can still do sunset-watching from the beaches in Malaysia, or wherever you are in the world.

Dinner was at Lia Cafe on Jimbaran beach. For we’ve read countless positive reviews about this cafe, in comparison to the others. Maybe not so for the food, but definitely for the price. Here at Lia Cafe, you can get a satisfying seafood feast for less than RM50/USD15 per person but some other outlets may charge you double, or even triple of that. So be careful, and do browse the menu, or ask prior to your meal, the price per 100g for each of the item you intend to devour.

Lia Cafe offers packaged meals, or “Paket Menu” as stated in their laminated menu with English spelling. Starting from IDR180,000/RM65/USD18 per set for two, you can actually share a set amongst 3-4 pax, depends on your threshold. For food, and of course, the depth of your wallet.

Our set consisted of Lobster, Prawns, Crab and Clams, for IDR290,000/RM105/USD29, and shared amongst 3 pax. The Lobster resembled a Slipper Lobster, or Crayfish, but the freshness of the seafood was evident. Grilled lightly with salt and served with sides of soup, salad, potatoes, rice, vegetables, and fruits, the set was more than enough to feed 3 person. Oh, and 2 small bottles of Bintang beer were thrown in for good measure. A steal, really.

To get to Lia Cafe, you MUST inform your driver before arrival. The stretch of seafood outlets on Jimbaran might confuse you for some pricier stalls are located on different stretches. If your driver hides a smirk behind that angelic face, he may drop you off at a comparably more expensive stall, for the potential commission he may get.

And thus, that seafood feast at Jimbaran officially capped our 7 days, 6 nights journey to the wonderful island of Bali. Yes we came back a shade or two darker, some even with sore throats and fever, and yet, none of us could deny that the getaway was a much deserved one, and thankfully, a budgeted one at that. We departed home the very next morning, an ULTRA early flight that required us to wake up at at unGodly hour of 4-5am or so. We put up a night at Bali Sorgawi Hotel in Kuta again, and got ourselves a slight discount for we checked in around midnight, and leaving early the next morning.

And yes, we did tip our driver, albeit the random dissatisfaction here and there. After all, he did put up with our antics, from the high decibel noises, to endless camwhoring sessions.

Lake Geneva Crappie Fishing (Wisconsin)

Geneva Lake is the largest lake in Wisconsin at 5,262 acres, 2.1 miles wide, 21 miles around, and second deepest lake in Wisconsin, at 135 feet deep.

Lake Geneva Vacation

Crappie are one of the few fish that are a suitable catch for all ages. Your four year old daughter as well as your eighty year old mother can enjoy fishing for and catching Crappie, simply because they are able to do so. Crappie do not hit hard when taking bait, and put up little struggle when being reeled in.

If you are considering a vacation on Lake Geneva, you will have several options available to you.

Requirements

While pretty much everything you need for your fishing vacation can be rented, there are a few things that you are required to have, and obtain on your own.

Anyone fishing during the vacation must purchase a fishing license. Fishing licenses can be picked up at various locations such as bait shops, convenience stores, department stores, outdoors and wildlife stores, and you may even obtain it online if you see fit. There are exceptions for the fishing license requirement, such as age. If a child 15 years old or younger will be fishing with an adult, then no license is needed.

The requirements for keeping fish you catch vary by season and area. To make sure you do not get into any trouble, you may want to obtain a pamphlet detailing the size regulations for each type of fish. Typically you will receive this when you apply for you fishing license. In the event that you do not receive this pamphlet, they are usually available wherever fishing equipment is sold.

Probably one of the most important things you need to obtain is a proper first aide kit. When fishing, you can be miles from the nearest person or place, so having a couple of items on hand is essential. Accidents such as a small prick from a hook or cut from a fish simply requires a band aid and antibacterial ointment. Small prepackaged first aide kits are available.

Accommodations

No matter the size of your family, Lake Geneva has rental accommodations that will suit your needs.

For a small vacation, there are an abundance of local hotels in the area. Each hotel has it’s unique features, so be sure to check into each one.

For a larger or more themed vacation, you may want to consider renting a local cabin, cottage, or house. These homes often offer a number of amenities such as: fully furnished units, lake views, docks and piers, and recreational areas. The prices, sizes, and amenities vary from home to home, so make sure to research what would be best for you.

Tips When Deciding to Go Trout Fishing in the Waters of Scotland

Know the trout, know the best bait, know the best gear, and know the best techniques- -these are the basics to trout fishing. But then again, the environment where you’re going to fish plays a huge part in the game. So if you’re going on a trip, and decide to try Scotland’s waters for fishing the infamous trout, then it’ll be best to get to know Scotland really well first.

Just like a tourist yearning to try out the country’s delicacies, you’d want to go where the abundance is. The banks of the Don, Tweed or Clyde, as well as the Isle of Lewis, or any other areas surrounded by trout loch are indeed good places. But still, research and planning are a prerequisite that must not be missed.

Books on Scotland’s best places to go trout fishing, as well as the internet, would really help in getting a bird’s eye-view. Excellent spots are found all throughout the Highlands, in the rivers and lochs located at Argyll, Caithness, Orkney, Durness, and Perthshire and some commercially stocked fisheries on either the Central belt or in Aberdeenshire. Decide on the regions you’re going to, so as not to waste your time unnecessarily and to have more fun, rather than more fatigue during your trip.

And like fruits that have their seasons, look up Scotland’s best times for trout fishing. You would find that the best dates to go on trout fishing in Scotland would be during the 14th of March to the 7th of October- the open season for fishing for trout. Also research on where you can purchase or rent quality gear for a good price.

If hiring a guide is possible, it’s best to get one. If you don’t have a guide when you arrive, start by asking the natives, especially those who are specialized in trout fishing, it’s a great way to get about. Before you even travel, make sure you’ve gotten a place to stay.

Once you’ve mapped out your preliminary plan on how you’ll go through your fishing trek, prepared all the gear you need to bring, and established a good budget, then you’re ready to go.

By the way, you’ll need to get permits for trout fishing on Scottish rivers since most of it is covered under Protection Orders. Permits are affordable and can be easily picked up at tourist outlets, tackle shops, tour operators or angling clubs. Standard permits will only allow you to fish for wild brown trout and rainbow trout, a migratory fish permit is required for you to be able to do sea trout fishing.

Once you’ve arrived and have finally settled down, the last thing to do is get into the waters of Scotland! Get around and communicate with the locals to find out more about the area, the best things to do when going trout fishing, and also to be able to connect with the place. The bond will help you be more comfortable in the area helping things become easier and more fun.

Before plunging in, hone your skills first. It’s good to concentrate on shallower waters, where the trout are more likely to be found. You can start by practicing your fly-fishing on the loch first, then moving on to the river banks, and then setting out in the boat once you’ve warmed up. Remember what you’ve read and learned from the experts’ advice on fishing for trout. Move with a consistent rhythm of casting and  keep that rhythm.

Have fun, learn more, and use that gained knowledge the next time you go trout fishing again!

Fishing from Cornwall to Derbyshire

Fishing is in the blood in West Cornwall. This community has relied on fishing for thousands of years. But it is not all beam trawlers and lobster pots. Many a family still supplements its table with sea fishing for mackerel, pilchards and sea bass.

The bass is a particular favourite because it is a beautiful fish, tasty and found in wonderful places. Like Porthcurno, a shelving sandy surf beach bordered on both sides by cliffs and rocks outcrops. There are fewer prettier places and in winter its isolation makes it very special. The sea bass is a special fish, too. Its sleek silver body and two dorsal fins, including usually eight sharp spines, make it distinct and desirable.

Known as the sea salmon in Cornwall, catching one gives the same sort of satisfaction. You can catch smaller bass here most of the year, with adults from April to October although now and again you will find decent sized fish in November and December.

Sea bass are taken best at night, even better at dusk and dawn. They are numerous close to shore after a gale, when large amounts of torn up weed in create their favourite stir-about.

You are going to want a rod of 15ozs max because you will be holding it all night, with line from 18lb to an ultra safe 30lb if you are worried about catching on weed or rocks. Most angler fish pulley rigs or clipped down one-hook (say a 3/0) rigs, from which bass take lug, rag or crab, and even squid later in the year. The record for shore bass is reckoned to be about 18lb but there are those that will tell they have had 20lb plus off here. This will surprise those from the north who see 4lb or 5lb sea bass. To be fair the 20lb fish are usually caught by anglers fishing alone who are then accosted by piskeys and robbed of their catch before they can get it witnessed.

There is a lot of fishing in Derbyshire and a lot of beautiful countryside to do it in,especially in the Peak District. The Derwent, the Dove, the Lathkill and the Wye are known throughout the world for their fishing.

The Derwent was particularly popularised by Izzac Walton whose skill with a pen matched his subtlety with hook and fly, and served to make fly fishing the sport of the lone gentleman. It flows south from the Ladybower reservoir towards Derby, through some of the most wonderfully rugged limestone hill farmland and its upper reaches offer prime marks for trout and grayling. But as you travel south down the Derwent its lower reaches offer an abundance of sport for the coarse fisherman, with barbel and chub prime targets.

Coarse fishing may not have the literary appeal but its, the artistic resonance of the fly, but there is no greater joy than striding out to an isolated Peak District angling spot, dropping your net in the water and casting out under overhanging branches. You will find a remarkable variety of marks, with the most breathtaking scenery, and fish that want to bite but will not bore with their over-eagerness. Much of the area is tied up either by the Chatsworth or other great estates or the likes of the Darley Dale fishing club, the Derwent Fly Fishers and the Sheffield Waltonians.

There is apparently a nice stretch available to members of the Police Federation near Calver. A secret gem packed with barbel and grayling is the River Noe which rises on Mam Tor and flows through the Hope Valley.
